Announcing Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art's Latest Exhibition: Baltic Open Submission.

The exhibition features a diverse range of artistic talent at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead. Opening to the public on Saturday, March 16, 2024, the exhibition, will feature works spanning various mediums including painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, film, and installation.

A remarkable 1400 artists and makers from the North East of England submitted their work for consideration, marking a record-breaking response to the open call. Following a rigorous selection process, a panel consisting of North East musician Paul Smith, artist Jasmina Cibic, Baltic Curator Niomi Fairweather, and Baltic Assistant Curator Rose McMurray, chose 104 artists to participate in the exhibition.

Baltic's Open Submission initiative aims to provide a platform for artists and collectives whose work may not have previously reached a public audience. Notably, no specific qualifications or prior exhibiting experience were required to submit artwork, reflecting Baltic's commitment to inclusivity and supporting emerging talent.

Niomi Fairweather, Baltic Curator, expressed her enthusiasm for the overwhelming response to the open call, emphasizing the privilege of showcasing the region's diverse artistic practices.

In addition to the selected artists, the exhibition will feature works by established contemporary artists, including the vibrant painting "The Exhibitionist" by Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves), a new photographic piece by American-born, Newcastle-based photographer Phyllis Christopher, and sculptures by British artist Holly Hendry.

Don't miss the opportunity to witness the creative energy of the North East of England at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art's Baltic Open Submission exhibition, opening March 16, 2024.
